After Valentine's Day we continue to celebrate...on the road
Between jewelry, dinners, flowers, perfumes and chocolates, the love festival marked, this year in particular, a time of great celebration. Shared experiences with no more restrictions, which had instead penalized (due to the pandemic) the last two years. In 2023, "new" gifts arrived alongside the gifts traditionally exchanged on Valentine's Day. The idea of gifting a trip was not born yesterday, but surely something has changed over time with respect to this way of expressing love for someone.
Not only that of couples. The concept of sharing, of love expressed on Valentine's Day in other parts of the world, for example in the United States of America, is also beginning to be promoted in Italy. Here the celebration of love is very inclusive: it is not only couples who exchange wishes, gifts and the classic cards that accompany February 14, but also friends, parents and children, anyone who wants to show someone (even their four-legged friend) deep and sincere affection.
The gifts that have continued to gain space this year, making their way among the more usual ones, are the trips, i experiential tours, day trips such as those that Rosy Smart City Tours organizes throughout the year. Weekends (and more) in Rome and its "surroundings," or in "magical" places like Calcata, in the province of Viterbo. Immersions in the Itria Valley, in the traditions of Salento, in the Lecce Baroque, in contact with the artisans, the artists of the cuisine of Gallipoli, Castro, Polignano. The sweets eaten in Puglia during Carnival time also appear on the tables of those celebrating Valentine's Day, with chocolates prepared by local master pastry chefs.
The holiday of love attracts the attention of many. There are even those who have gone so far as to study the effect of the gift chosen for Valentine's Day, on the relationship of a couple. It seems that each stage of the relationship between two people corresponds to a different, differently perfect gift. Travel, we are sure, is welcome on any occasion, it can green up a relationship, strengthen it. According to the latest statistics, tours to cities other than one's own, trips in general are increasingly popular on Valentine's Day.
If last year 56 percent of Italians in couples were sure to celebrate (Ipsos data), this year that percentage will almost certainly have been higher (official data are not yet public). On the eve of the holiday this 2023, Fipe (Italian Federation of Public Establishments) estimated that more than five million Italians would indulge in a restaurant dinner. Higher numbers than last year. A large number of Italians will also have celebrated with a weekend away, for a total estimated expenditure of 2.2 billion euros. On average, for a weekend away, Italians spent (figure to be confirmed) 350 euros per person.
